Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. USS Bright (DE-747) was a Cannon-class destroyer escort built for the United States Navy during World War II. She served in the Pacific Ocean and provided escort service against submarine and air attack for Navy vessels and convoys. Despite being crashed by a kamikaze, she was able to return home safely and proudly after the war with one battle star. She was named in honor of Graham Paul Bright who was killed on Guam by Japanese machine gun fire during the fighting that followed the Japanese landing on 10 December 1941. The ship was laid down on 9 June 1943 at San Pedro, California, by the Western Pipe and Steel Company; launched on 26 September 1943; sponsored by Mrs. Miriam Engle Bright, Lt.(jg.) Bright's widow; and commissioned on 30 June 1944, Lt. Comdr. William A. McMahan, USNR, in command.
