Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In chemistry, a selone is the structural analog of a ketone where selenium replaces oxygen. Selones are used as chiral derivatizing agents for selenium-77 NMR spectroscopy. Chiral oxazolidineselones are excellent partners in the stereospecific aldol reaction, and 77Se NMR can verify the enantiomeric purity of the aldol product. In organic chemistry, a ketone is an organic compound with the structure RC(=O)R', where R and R' can be a variety of atoms and groups of atoms. It features a carbonyl group (C=O) bonded to two other carbon atoms. Many ketones are known and many are of great importance in industry and in biology. Examples include many sugars and the industrial solvent acetone.
