Zheleznogorsk-Ilimsky is a town in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia, located east of Bratsk and west of the northern tip of Lake Baikal, 16 kilometers from the Ilim River and 1,222 kilometers north of Irkutsk. Population: 26,134; 29,093; 32,326. It was founded in 1948, in connection with the beginning of exploitation of the iron deposits at Zheleznaya Gora. The settlement was initially named Korshunikha after prospector Shestak Korshunov, who had discovered the Iron Mountain in the 17th century.
