The population was 2,902 at the 2000 census.According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 27.1 square miles (70 km2), of which, 24.6 square miles (64 km2) of it is land and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2) of it (8.94%) is water.As of the census of 2000, there were 2,902 people, 1,115 households, and 831 families residing in the town. The population density was 117.8 people per square mile (45.5/km²). There were 1,308 housing units at an average density of 53.1 per square mile (20.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.76% White, 0.52% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.34% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races.
