Mr Tabu Ram Taid was born on August 1, 1942, in a remote and backward tribal village, named Ghunasuti Ayengia, located in the present-day Lakhimpur district of Assam, India. He belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community, named Mising, also known as Miri. His father, Ubang Taid, was a small, subsistence level farmer, who had to struggle to make both ends meet in maintaining his family of nine members—two daughters, five sons and the couple.
