The evolution of libraries has been influenced by constant changes due to information
technology developments in recent years aiming to preserve the attractiveness
of the medium book, which is threatened by an increasing number of electronic
resources on the Internet. Once such important technology utilized to benefit the library and its patrons is Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).
It makes libraries more attractive to patrons and changes administrative processes significantly. This book provides a general overview about RFID-based applications for libraries and how they should be implemented. Several case studies, surveys and research projects are analyzed to investigate this subject from a scientific as well as from a practical point of view. Finally, an RFID-based mobile application was implemented in a real library to prove the results and concepts gained during this research.
