She was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and studied composition at the Prague Academy of Music with Emil Hlobil and at the Sofia State Academy with Alexander Raichev. The Bulgarians are a South Slavic people native to Bulgaria and neighbouring regions. Emigration has resulted in immigrant communities in a number of other countries. Emil Hlobil was a twentieth century Czechoslovakian composer and music professor based in Prague.
