Biological production of α-amylase by fermentation is well documented. A better understanding of the process is required to get increased amounts of α-amylase for better process efficiency and economy. The present study is aimed to screen the potent α-amylase producing bacteria from the waters of Bay of Bengal, Visakhapatnam. As Bacillus species proved efficient in many industrial applications, our study is mainly focused on isolation, characterization of Bacillus species by primary and secondary screenings and strain improvement techniques for increase in α-amylase yield. Optimization of α-amylase production by Brevibacillus borstelensis R1 in Submerged fermentation (SmF) III. Strain Improvement by using physical and chemical mutagens IV.
