Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In recent years, the use of Italian exonyms for lesser known places has significantly decreased, in favour of the foreign toponym. However, major capitals and historically relevant cities and regions are still referred to with the Italian name. In addition to the exonyms listed below, it is worth noting that all toponyms starting with "New" or its equivalent in other languages can be translated as "Nuovo" or "Nuova". For example, until a couple of decades ago it would be common to refer to New York as "Nuova York".
