Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In computer science, a canonical LR parser or LR parser is an LR parser for k=1, i.e. with a single lookahead terminal. The special attribute of this parser is that all LR parsers with k<1 can be transformed into a LR parser. The LR parser has the most language recognition power of all formal parsing methods[1] but it is mostly avoided because of its high memory requirements in favor of the LALR and LL parsers. Like other LR parsers, this parser is automatically generated by compiler compilers like GNU Bison and Menhir.
