Blurb/Shorttext:
The strong linkage between agriculture and industry plays an important role to expand the growth of agricultural sector. It has been argued that economic development is associated with a relative shift in the structure of a economy or inter-linkages between different sectors in an economy. In the recent phase, the Central Government, State Government, Reserve Bank of India, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), visualize contract farming as an important policy intervention into the economy. Contract farming envisages a symbiotic relationship between agriculture and industry The present study tries to examine the type of linkages between agriculture and industry by considering a village from the state of Odisha, which is closely associated with a sugar industry. The primary data was collected from all 141 households habitant in the villages. The study concludes that by entering into the contractual arrangement, the income level of the farmer and employment level in the rural economy has increased despite certain problems faced by the farmers like delayed payment, delay in procurement and low supply of agricultural inputs to them.
