The book illustrates a practical approach for screening different environmental samples for isolation, identification and characterization of economically important microbes. It provokes young investigators in the field of enzyme technology to plan simple experiments procedure to solve a scientific problem of interest. The book provides information about the methods involved in microbial isolation and characterization. Most proficient microbial cultures for amylase production were identified through morphological, cultural and biochemical analysis. Both physical factors (temp, pH) and chemical factors (alteration in the composition of growth media) were optimized for microbial growth. Microbes under optimum growth conditions reflected large-scale production of amylases (concentration measured) which was isolated, characterized and purified. Further, the effect of different factors such as temp., pH, chemical activators or inhibitors over enzyme activity was determined. Thus, the work tends to open new doors of scientific investigations towards important industrial applications.
