Moral Values are evaluations of actions generally believed by the members of a given society to be either right or wrong. Moral Values refer to those values which are related to an individual’s character and personality conforming to what is right and virtuous. They reveal a person’s self-control. Examples: honesty, integrity, sense of responsibility, compassion etc. the realm of Moral Values is rather a debatable one. For example: according to sage Yagnavalkya, as a moral value ‘dharma’ signifies the cultivation of the virtues of non-injury, sincerity, honesty, cleanliness, control of the sense, charity, self-restraint, love and forbearance. It may be observed that this list includes both social values (values that refer to the good of others) and individual values (values that serve to develop one’s own character and will). The quality of a nation depends upon the quality of its citizens; the quality of citizens depends upon the quality of their education; the quality of education depends upon the quality of teachers and the quality of teachers depends upon the quality of teacher education. Moral Values in teacher education is very important for national development.
