Putter Smith (born Patrick Smith on January 19, 1941, in California) is an American jazz bassist, recording artist, music teacher, author, and retired actor. Smith is perhaps best known for his movie role as assassin, Mr. Kidd, played alongside Mr. Wint (Bruce Glover), in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever, starring Sean Connery as 007. A life-long professional jazz bassist, Smith has appeared on numerous releases throughout his career including the 1975 Pat Britt album entitled Jazzman (Vee-Jay International) and the 1987 Alan Broadbent Trio album entitled Another Time (Trend Records).
