Chesterton is a village and civil parish about 1.5 miles southwest of Bicester, Oxfordshire. It is on Akeman Street, the Roman road between London and Cirencester, about 1 mile northwest of Alchester Roman Town. The village has sometimes been called Great Chesterton to distinguish it from the hamlet of Little Chesterton, about 0.75 miles to the south in the same parish. Just before the Norman conquest of England the manor of Chesterton belonged to Wigod, a Saxon thegn who was a kinsman of King Edward the Confessor
